Veggie Patches and Toilet Training

Hot, sticky, sweaty Thailand - we are definitely well and truly into the hot season. Coming back from Australia this time was a bit different. I came back to my new job as a case worker, with a whole lot of new western volunteers and rescue girls! It took me a while to catch my breath and work out what I was meant to be doing, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it. Best of all, I love it. Getting to work with these girls every day and do everything within my power to help them reach their dreams is exhilarating. Unfortunately there are more and more girls coming in here that have huge trauma in their lives and find it really hard to cope. The need for a place where they can go and heal is huge, and everything in me just wants to get this farm up and running as soon as possible.

Our dreams for the little farm are an ever present prayer and desire in our hearts. We have started our own mini farm in our back yard and are going to try to be as sustainable as possible within 6 months. We are preparing our minds, hearts and bodies for this God-given journey. I am out in our vegetable patch every day. It’s my God-and-me time place. Nothing like sitting down on an old wooden bench watching my garden grow. It literally makes me so ridiculously happy. I’m not sure I’ll do when I see the first vegetables actually growing! I can’t wait until I have so many vegetables that I have to give them away. Then once I think of that I think of eggs, milk and meat in little wooden crates…….. And then I’m carried away into my very own dream land.

Do you want to see it? Imagine a beautiful hilly farm overlooking rice patches with no other house in sight. Small dirt houses built into the hills. Big fruit trees scattered around the property, each with a tyre swing gently blowing in the breeze. A huge fresh vegetable plot with adults and children collecting vegetables needed for dinner. John is over in the valley checking on the fish pond. The cows in the barn are mooing as they are milked by the girl that arrived the day before. She is giggling and squealing as she tried to grab the teet and shoot the milk into the jug. Her smile is triumphant as she gets her first complete stream in all on her own. She’ll be drinking that milk tonight and maybe even making some cheese with it tomorrow. After dinner we all sit around the fire with a guitar, singing and praising God and telling stories about our days. The piglets that were born, how many eggs the little kids collected, what we learned in school. All in all we are tired but so happy, content and in awe of the God that put the stars in the sky and still knows the number of hairs on each one of our heads.

Such highs in my dreamland, contrast with the disappointment that I feel when I look at the facts through human eyes. Financially it was a bit of a kick in the guts to come home empty handed, but we know that God’s timing is best. So far we have been given $800 towards our farm. How awesome is that? To see other people giving to support this dream is a miracle in itself. We have bought some beautiful heirloom seeds with some of this money and the rest is in a farm savings account waiting for God’s instruction.

Onto family life… yes Charlotte is almost at toilet training stage! Apart from being scared of her toilet and potty it is great. The other day I watched in awe and shock as she squatted on the deck and peed all by herself. Then she walked over to her pool, scooped up water in her cup and poured it over her pee. I’m still not sure what I think of this – but thank you very much Charlotte for cleaning up your mess?? Charlotte is growing and learning new things every day. She loves going to watch the cows in the fields near our house and collecting the eggs from our chickens. We are so blessed to call ourselves her parents.

Love the Sops

Prayer points –

Please pray that God helps us be content in his timing.

For our Spiritual health as we prepare ourselves for dealing with high trauma and rehabilitation.

That God supplies the perfect land and the finances to purchase it.
