life in fast motion

So life is fast and tough right now. The 7 days a week intense work has been taking it's toll on all of us. It doesn't help that on top of starting up a farm we have the added stress of sick animals, naughty animals eating neighbours veggies, pets being killed by an evil cat, and becoming temporary guardians of a teenage boy for one month. Man that's a lot to type let alone deal with!  Yes there have been tears. Granted probably not enough yet but I'm sure they'll work their way out eventually.
BUT FARM!! Here is what has been happening around the joint....

GOATS! They have been upgraded.

So the big news is the new goat shed is over halfway done!! Yay for us and yay for the goats! Soon they will have their own paddocks too. We're very excited about this as the old pen was escapable and hard to manage. The boys have done an amazing job building solid pens. Soon the old pen will be torn down and in its place will be our storage and feed area. The boys are also about to put the water tanks in as the rain is starting and it would be nice to have some running water (small thing in life).

These are our newest additions to the farm. 12 little ducklings. Aren't they adorable? I've been trying not to get too attached as normally an entire hatch doesn't make it to adulthood, but so far so good! We'll move them up to the pond when they are about a month old.

The rainy season is almost in full swing, and soon we will be planting rice. I'm so excited for the rice, as it will make the property look so beautiful and green. The veggies are growing slowly. A continual challenge to keep the insects and diseases off them organically, but so far things are OK. Not fabulous, but not all dead.

Also we are starting to sell fish. John has organised with a local shop to start selling them up to 3kg's of catfish a day. That's $6 a day. I know it doesn't sound like much but that will cover most of our food expenses. Its a bit exciting for us. It has been a bit scary not having any income coming in yet, so this is a huge blessing. Here's hoping for more and more.

A final sad note - Frankie our goat is quite ill. We think he may have suffered from a brain parasite (passed down from his mother) and now he appears to be brain damaged. His neck has sever curvature and he seems quite vacant. He can get around and eat by himself now, but there have been no improvements in his overall health. Please pray that he gets better as we miss his friendly self.

Til next post. Peace Out

Ohh Heidi, feeling your pain, frustration, excitement all rolled into one. Being on a farm I know the ups & downs that one can have. Glad you have some positives to put against those ole negatives.
We have a little kitten & there has been a stray cat annoying her, & making her nervous on going outdoors, which stresses me, so can understand your evil cat intervening your pets environment too. The joys of animals/life/death/illness, BUT I'm sure there will be many, many joyful times ahead. :) Charlotte will certainly be learning heaps too! Be encouraged Heidi (& John), remember we, & many, pray for you & your little farm ~ Philippians 1:2 'Grace to you & peace from God our Father & the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always (well as the Spirit nudges me!) offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all...." Amen. Hugs, x

This blog has been part updates and part personal. I am now changing it to simply farm updates. I may start a personal one soon, but not sure.
