Wow hasn’t 2014 just flown by?
Things are going great for us. John has been amazingly busy on weeknights and weekends building a better chicken/duck coop, extending the goat pen, building raised garden beds and clearing out the weed filled section behind our house. I have been busy with case work and surprisingly I have been doing a lot more nursing lately. Wound dressings, taking blood and even just basic things like following up girls who come in with pre-existing conditions. It has made me so happy to be able to use my nursing skills over here.
So biggest news…. Harriet the goat had a kid! We had 2 goats when I went to work one Monday.... and came home to three. WOW. SURPRISE!! Haha. I had been wondering about her weight and had questioned our vet friend about it multiple times. I had even tried to feel her up (Obviously not very well). But hey – a surprise cutie was so much fun!! His name is Frankie Lyle and he is one month old today. He is so much fun for our family and all the add-ons that come over. John has now added on an extra enclosure to the goat pen so that we can separate them if needed and they have more room. I am still milking Black Beauty daily, and we get enough milk for our family. Once Frankie starts to wean off Harriet, we will be getting a lot more milk – which means cheese, yogurt, feta and much more! Yum.
These past few months I have been taking a rescue girl home with me one day a week on my day off. She struggles in the Learning Centre Program a bit and so we organized for her to come and play with Charlotte, the animals and we often go for bike rides and get smoothies. It’s a really sweet thing to see her loving on Charlotte like a big sister. She becomes a completely different girl at our house and it warms my heart. It also really reinforces the fact that this is what God is calling our family to do. Love on the girls that need a safe haven to come relax and heal.
Well Christmas is just around the corner! A good friend and I have been talking about how hard Christmas is being here – away from the family and festive-ness that comes with Christmas back home. So we decided to do something different. We are going to open our home on Christmas day and serve the local Buddhist community. We want to feed them a Christmas Feast, give them small gifts, play with their children, love on them and most importantly tell them about Jesus. Please pray for us as we start to organise this. Pray that people come, they like our food and that God uses us to preach His love. If you would like to support this event in any way shape or form, please send me a message. All presents and food left over will be taken to a poor village on Boxing Day to share there. So there is no downside!
Our GoFundMe site went really well to raise some funds for the farm land, but we still don’t have enough to buy the land that we originally wanted. So right now we are still actively looking for smaller blocks of land and are just praying that we will be content to wait for His Perfect Timing. If you know me well, you know that this is just about the hardest thing you can ask me to do… sit and wait. But I am and I will do until we hear His voice clearly.
We can only get closer to our dreams!
